Author: Dr Lalit Kishore
Absract: A thirty-hour transitional micro-project for transition from home language (Dundari) to school language (Standard Hindi) of rural and tribal girls of Chaksu block of Jaipur was developed and implemented in single-teacher bridge schools sucessfully. The micro-project was supported under the ERIC-NCERT scheme and the bridge schools were funded by UNICEF. The project was later adapted under Maa-Bari Scheme of Tribal Welfare Department of Rajasthan for transition from Bagari to Hindi to English in single-teacher tribal schools in Udaipur, Dungarpur and Banswara. To capture the success story, the case illustration technique was employed to capture the context, facts, features, materials, execution procedures for the project and classroom management levels that led to smooth transition from home to school language and integration of rural and tribal children to the textbook of grade one. The outcome of the case illustration study is in the form of language transition model with cultural integration through school adjustment, curricular accommodation and inclusion of children with sensitivity and support. For teachers, the tribal culture and dialect needs to learnt to create initial vocabulary of students with padding strategy for integrating children to the school language as a transdisciplinary initiative that breaks boundaries between indigenous psychology, tribal sociology, language education and management science.
