Of late, trans-disciplinary research studies are being promoted in various institutions to integrate more than two knowledge areas. Even at the school level, students and teachers are being given a feel for this kind of research and projects

Here are the ABCs of Trans-Disciplinary Research.


  • A: Aim is to mount and carry out decompartmentalized integrated studies at theoretical, methodological, conceptual and translational or problem solving levels to explore diverse content areas within the context of the proposed integrated research inquiry

  • B: Boundaries of knowledge are no more confined or constrained not by traditional subjects, rather they are opened to embrace or overlap a variety content areas and perspectives or view points.

  • C: Conducted by investigators from different disciplines working jointly to integrate and move beyond discipline-specific contents and study approaches to address a felt problem

  • D: Demands that the involved researchers and experts from various disciplines are collaborate by sharing ideas for integrating their learning experiences to break boundaries of their respective disciplines

  • E: Exploratory and open-ended study of a relevant concept, issue or problem that integrates the perspectives of multiple academic disciplines in order to connect for deeper understanding towards unity of knowledge and holistic learning
