In the ancient India, the education system consisted of passing on the knowledge of the Vedas to the seekers and disciples through oral traditions and self-contained Gurukulas and Asharam Shalas based on the family-model of learning with both the Guru and the resident learners living and growing as a commune of learners with mutual respect, self-discipline and self-reflection to acquire self-knowledge and worldly wisdom to perform life-duties ethically and with humility.
The Vedic education system was supported and sustained by the community and the parents themselves on the principles of humanism and selfless service. In the present context keeping the tenet of schooling as a organized sector of empowering the 'community of learners.’
ABCs of Gurukul in modern context
A: Accepting and committing to the school as a common venture of professionals, parents, community as a service for holistic and humanistic development of their children
B: Basing the school on experiential learning , positive schoolboy and Vedic philosophy of humanising learners and make them self-learning
C: Combining and harmonizing self-knowledge with academic knowledge with a bid to live life at higher conscious levels of self-reflective, self-corrective and intuitive level of thinking and acting
