Action research and lesson studies are ways to link learning with various learning resources including libraries: Study

"Research and development and inter-disciplinary studies at the school level can only be institutionalized through participatory intervention-cum-action research and lesson studies," said the presenter the paper at the national conference on library and information science held at Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra, early March 2024.


The research paper "Experimenting with User-Centred Big Books and Classroom String Library Development for School Kids: Intervention cum Action Research At Foundational Stage" by Dr Lalit Kishore and Subhash Chauhan of Som Gurukul, Kukukshetra was adjudged as the best paper that suggested the feasibility of contextual big books for preschoolers and classroom string classroom library as urged by the National Education Policy-2022, National Curriculum Framework-2023 and circulars of the CBSE to use school libraries as a learning resource. The library science laws two and three propounded by Dr SR Ranganathan also point towards creating books suitable for every user.


The National Education Policy (NEP)-2020 besides emphasising the importance of libraries and books as vital learning resources, has also urged the institutions and publishers to develop contextual, illustrated, interesting and inspirational books in various Indian languages and dialects to 'build a culture of reading.'


According to Gujral and Shivarama, NEP-2020 lays a great emphasis on research and development and strengthening the scholarly communication environment. They hold, "NEP has provisions to enhance and foster research and development in the areas of cutting edge technologies such as machine learning, artificial intelligence, virtual reality, natural language processing, big data, and analytics. Libraries play a major role in fostering and supporting researchers through reading and referencing service across multidisciplinary domains. Providing access to research portals and databases for data collection as well as literature."
