Bicycling reduces many health risks: Special on World Bicycle Day

Today, June 3, is the 4th edition of World Bicycle Day. The United Nations proclaimed World Bicycle Day is being observed since 2018 to urge the use of bicycles as a simple, affordable, reliable, clean and environmentally fit sustainable means of transport as well as a part of positive life style. During the current pandemic crisis, bicycle is is considered to safe means to move around.


According to the World Health Organization (WHO), safe infrastructure for walking and cycling is also a pathway for achieving greater health equity.


“For the poorest urban sector, who often cannot afford private vehicles, walking and cycling can provide a form of transport while reducing the risk of heart disease, stroke, certain cancers, diabetes, and even death” adds WHO at its website.
