Small birds sitting at heights take plunge into air to catch an inset flying down as their food. They close wings to streamline their body for least air resistance to themselves and make use of gravity for short dives to catch the insect and take to flight mode again - perfect aerodynamics..
Some birds jump from height with open wings to get a forward thrust for a flight down and then change direction by turning tails.
For flying up from ground, birds obtain thrust by using their strong leg-end muscle fibers and hard feet leaf-spring effect along with flapping their wings or they may run before taking off ground.
Grass seeds are a natural food source for several small bird species. Those who maintain lawns in the their houses, try to keep birds away from eating the grass seeds.
Garden lovers at times use fake predators to deter the birds from their lawns.
