Choral reading is reading skill of reading aloud in unison by group of students that has the potential of building students' reading fluency as well as self-confidence.
The choral reading skill development works well across the ability range and is deemed an effective inclusion strategy. At foundational level up to grade two, there should be daily practice of coral reading with the help of reading cards created with the key content of each lesson. For dysgraphic children, coral reading is extremely helpful.
The process of coral reading should be as follows
i. Teacher must model-read the content card aloud after distributing to cards to group members for following on
ii. He or she must explain the pronunciation and intonation of some key words
iii. Teacher, then, must read the content card by moving his or her index finger along the work cluster spoken at time
iv. Next, teacher must give practice in coral echo-speaking practice by moving finger on the content card
v. Teacher should, now, do the corrective echo-speaking of some selective words
vi. In the end, unison coral reading should be practiced three times with the teacher providing the lead
