Dev Uthani Ekadashi marked by spree of weddings

Tulsi Vivah / Dev Uthani Ekadashi is observed on the 11th day of Shukla Paksha of the Kartik month. In rural areas, Tulsi Mandana is made as wall painting for auspicious beginning of the festival.


Dev Uthani Ekadashi significance


  • It marks the end of the four months period called Chaturmas

  • It is the day of the waking up of Devas and Lord Vishnu from Yog Nidra

  • It commemorates Lord Vishnu marriage with Tulsi believed to incarnation of 'Vrinda'

  • It marks the beginning of an auspicious phase in which the Hindus hold events like marriage ceremonies, yagyopavit ceremony, starting new ventures, etc.


After Dev Uthan Ekadashi, the marriage season starts in the various states of North India


In folk culture, village women in Rajashtan at many places make wall painting 'madana' to begin the festival at dawn.
