Dyslexic children and learning by them: A short note

Dyslexia is a neurological learning disorder learning to read becomes a constant struggle. In other words, dyslexic children has the learning disability to recognize and manipulate the sounds of the language development. hard time decoding new words, or breaking them down into manageable chunks they can then sound out. This causes difficulty with reading, writing and spelling in language development. It has been found that about 80% children with learning disability are dyslexic.


Symptoms

-inability to decode words into sound chunks
-Spoken spelling is also a struggle
-Poor recall making learning of every new word difficult
-Learning four-line mini poems is also a big struggle since they omit out words
-Find it difficult to make out difference between left and right
-Have a very slow pace of learning

Children with mild and moderate dyslexia get into problem after grade 2/3 as the greater amount of vocabulary learning is required. They become frustrated from and start having low esteem and stop believing in themselves.



Emotional aspects


Emotionally, children with dyslexia are highly sensitive, never criticise or punish them. Praise them even when a micro-learning step gets completed. They should be given handwritten worksheets for revision, homework and re-inforcement. Multisensory experiences and mastery of activities of daily life are needed to be emphasised
