Early childhod Education made part of National Education Policy 2020 as a component of five-Year Foundational Education

Dr Lalit Kishore, Director Lok Jumbish Project in Rajasthan during 1990s, (deputed from Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangthan for five years) was the special invitee member of the 9th Five Year Plan that dwelled on  issue of Early Childhood Development and Education to be experimented with in project mode in the rural areas.

Currently, under the National Education Policy-2020, the Early Childhood Education for 3-6 Age Group Children has been made the part of Foundational Education of children from the 3-8 Age Group. The Foundational Education is five year schooling that covers the three-year pre-primary education along with grades one and two.
