Findel-CASTME Awards 2023 Announced: C'Wealth Award to Dr Kishore for Project at Vidya Bharati's Girls School in Jaipur

Updated: Feb 24

The Commonwealth Association of Science, Technology and Mathematics Educators (CASTME) has been promoting and honouring innovations in STEM and STEAM education at primary, secondary and tertiary levels in the Commonwealth Countries.

Seizing the opportunity, Jaipur based educator and researcher Dr Lalit Kishore, did a project 'Feminising and integrating Mathematics for STEAM areas with Right-Hemispheric Appeal by Emphasizing Mathematics Literacy Skills, Principles of Multiple Intelligence Based Learning and Element of Feminist Pedagogy for Girls Taking First Post-Pandemic Public Examination' in 2023 at the 'Senior Secondary Adarsh Balika Vidyalaya Mandir'( Jai Jawan Colony-3, jaipur) which has been honoured with Findel-Castme Commonwealth Award.

Communicating the winning of the CASTME AWARDS 2023, Kathleen Nugent, Vice Chair CASTME, e-mailed, " Dr Kishrore, I am pleased to inform you that the CASTME Board of Trustees has awarded a CASTME Commendation Award Certificate to Senior Secondary Girls Adarsh Vidya Mandir School. for the short titled entry "Intervening to feminize senior school mathematics with STEAM and daily life connections...The Trustees thank you for submitting this entry," followed by special commendation award certificate

.

According to the diagnostic cum solution-suggestive study of Kishore, gender remains a major issue impacting on achievement of girls in mathematics and biased societal attitudes which are needed to be attended to for which feminist pedagogy holds the answers to provide the gender-inclusive and equitable solutions. Award winning project rightly makes a case for use of feminist pedagogy for making maths instruction female friendly.

Furthermore, CASTME is a member of the Commonwealth Consortium for Education (CCfE) and it collaborates with Philip Harris/Findel for the Education Award, the Protect Our Planet Award, and the Community Award each year for best practices in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education. Awards are open for all age groups, to demonstrate the relevance of STEM to local environments and to promote the relationship between them. The awards aim are met within informal teaching and learning sites and communities as well as those within schools, colleges and universities.
