National Education Day (November 11) commemorates the birth anniversary of the first education minister (15 August 1947 - 2 February 1958) of India, Maulana Abul Kalam Azad who subscribed for humanistic education.
The observance has a two-fold purpose as follows.
Remembering Maulana Abul Kalam Azad's contribution in laying the foundations of the education system after independence
Revisiting, reviewing and recommending for better performance in the the field of education
Earlier, the observance was marked by publishing of special articles on education and holding seminars, symposiums, workshops, discussions and rallies on educational on various issues and aspects of education.
Here is my short note on humanistic education on this occasion:
Education system and learning processes are needed to foster, nurture and accomplish innate human potential of learning to induce total well-being among learners – Physical, mental and social well being.
.
By and large, the present day education has become a business which is causing a lot of stress to both patents and students. On this day we should reflect on the issue ‘what kind education’ needs to be offered as an obligation for learning by students and their well being.
However, well meaning educators and social activists suggest the philosophical foundation of education should be ‘humanism’ and psychological foundation should be ‘positive psychology’ to awaken their overall intelligence and well-being which seen as a part of multiple theory of intelligence.
Here is a non-poem, which had written earlier, on humanism is reproduced to get some ideas.
