Haiku have the potential to muscalize text and make learning mindful

Teaching language through music intelligence right from early childhood education has immense possibilities to develop children's language skills both at the receptive and expressive levels along with non-cognitive gains. Both, educational and neuro-scientific studies support both cognitive cognitive and non-cognitive gains along with creation of inclusive classrooms. Proper use of vocal music through short poems influences the development of phonological awareness, speech clarity, memory and fluency among preschool children.


There are studies on spill over effects of music training by outsider musicians, experts and researchers who have had formal music education and training as a formal curricular activity or extra-curricular activity by appointing music teachers. Various subject teachers either do not feel confident to make use of music or feel shy to use music in transaction of their subject matter or prescribed curricular content.


The CBSE (2019) document has cited the example of the use three-line syllabic Haiku poetry in science instruction which is rhythmic recitation. This language art-form has used for teaching physics (Kishore 2020, 2023, 2024 ) and enhancing spiritual intelligence as a part of whole brain education. Writing haiku and reciting them slowly mindful activity and brain exercise. According to Kishore, haiku-integrated disciplinary learning musicalizes the text and enhances musical-rhythmic intelligence of children helps in active remembering the text.
