Holi poem in English to reinforce vocabulary for children with learning disabilities

Children with learning disabilities (LD) have average and above average IQ and learn more by seeing, listening and speaking. They are also given a writer / scribe to write their spoken answers after the instructions or questions are read to them

Learning by an LD child is to be accomplished through practice and internalization of learning as an integral part of teaching-learning-evaluation continuum. Often, in the classroom, the teacher works both as an instructor as well as a writer for an LD child.

It has been suggested by the studies that the festivals and special days like birthdays should not be celebrated with them as done by the normal children since such celebration reinforces their lower instincts and become detrimental to their learning. Many of them even start demanding adamantly that celebration should be done every now and done to gratify their senses instead of training and development of their senses. Many other children with LD find celebrations are tortures and secondary noises detrimental to their mental health.

Festivals should be deemed as culture-linked learning opportunity for LD children on one-to-one bases or in small groups.

One way is to create a mini-poem to be learnt with pedagogical sound protocol after building sight vocabulary of the keywords.

The reinforcement of the vocabulary should be done with cross-word puzzle teacher-assisted writing the works with answers spoken by children

Here is the keywords for vocabulary building:

HOLI; GULAL; FLOWER; PETAL, DRUM, JOY, FUN;DRY; POWDER; PLAY

Here is a short poem on Holi

With the beat the drum

Holi has come, Holi has come

Happy Holi! Lets play Holi!

With clours-n-joy-n-fun

Or, with flower petals some.

Crossword puzzle

Here is an inset crossword puzzle in which clues are spoken by the teacher and words are spoken by the LD child followed writing of words by the teacher to solve the puzzle. Remediation is taken up there after and corrective practice is done.
