Human Agency: A Short Note

In organizational planning and management, the idea of human agency encourages individuals to go beyond simply responding to situations, highlighting the importance of proactive behavior and the capacity to influence both their future and the direction of the organization. This notion of human agency has its roots in psychologist Albert Bandura's social cognitive theory and is associated with three key attributes: intentionality, forethought, and creativity. Intentionality refers to acting with a clear purpose and a specific goal in mind, while forethought involves the ability to foresee future consequences, establish goals, and devise action plans to achieve desired results. Within an organization, embracing this concept empowers individuals to motivate themselves and direct their actions in anticipation of future events, leading to innovative and relevant solutions in response to emerging situations.

Human Agency, Creative Seed within: A Decastich

A human heart, a thinking mind,

Not just a cog, left far behind.

Agency, the strength to choose,

Get creative, no chance to lose.

Let creativity take its flight,

And lead us to a future bright.

With agency, we stand as one,

A task complete, the journey done.

So trust the self, the inner voice,

And let our agency rejoice.
