HUMAN SOLIDARITY DAY:  PURPOSE AND DECASTICH 

PURPOSE

Each year, the UN proclaimed International Human Solidarity Day (20 December since 2005)  is observed is as an opportunity to reaffirm a simple truth:that our shared future depends on how well we act together.

"Solidarity is woven through the United Nations Charter and the Organization’s daily work—uniting countries and communities to advance peace, human rights, and social and economic development," states the UN adding that the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development is centred on people and planet, underpinned by human rights, and supported by a global partnership determined to end poverty and reduce inequalities.

HUMAN SOLIDARITY: A DECASTICH

A world of colours, shades so bright,

But shadows lengthen, dimming light.

Inequality's shadow, we must erase,

Solidarity's warmth, light up the place.

How can we build a stronger tie?

Where all can thrive, beneath the sky?

Wake up and act, each and every day,

Human unity, lighting the way.

We need each other, truth be told,

Solidarity's a story to be told.
