India is celebrating Sant Ravidas Jayanti on February 27 in the year 2021. He is deemed as a prominent mystic poet-saint and social reformers during the devotional or Bhakti movement which was prevalent in 15th and 16th Century CE.
As a social reformer, he taught his followers to shun of social divisions of caste and gender. He promoted unity of human race and freedom for pursuing personal spiritual path. Some of Ravidas' devotional verses have been included in the Guru Granth Sahib of Sikhism and the Panch Vani text of the Dadupanthi tradition within Hinduism. He taught removal of social divisions of caste and gender, and promoted human unity in diversity of pursuits of personal spiritual freedom of individuals.
