Indian mynas are deemed as 'pests' because they are omnivores with big appetite



Indian mynas or acridotheres tristis are found in warm locales near water sources. They are omnivores and eat bugs, bug larvae, snails, small rodents, tiny reptiles, fish and crabs as well as consume cultivated crops, love grass seeds and food in waste.


They also fond of insects such flies, grasshoppers, locusts, caterpillars and beetles. They also suck nectar of flowers as ell as eat fruits.


Indian mynas have a tendency to scour habitations for remnants of food and scavenge road-kills too.


They have big appetites and often called 'pest' since they consume agricultural grain crops in a big way

. Besides grass seeds, they enjoy the seeds of apples, tomatoes, papayas, breadfruit, blueberries, strawberries and pears.
