The Observance

International Special Librarians Day was celebrated on April 13, 2026, to acknowledge and appreciate the distinct contributions of librarians working in specialized settings such as corporations, law firms, hospitals, and museums. This day emphasized the skills of information professionals who manage specialized knowledge for specific organizations.

This observance was initiated by the 'Special Libraries Association' (SLA), a non-profit global organization dedicated to innovative information professionals and their collaborators in government, business, academia, and other specialized fields.

The primary goal was to highlight the essential role these librarians have in research, competitive intelligence, and knowledge management.

A Librarian's Song: In the AI Era

The books still stand, but times take flight,

No longer just a keeper of the light.

The AI hums, a busy friend,

Cataloging chores now find their end.

But I remain, with knowing eyes,

To teach what's true, and filter lies.

I guide the search, the data's flow,

That everyone may learn and grow.

Ethical guard, in digital space,

Ensuring fairness, every race.

Curator still, of stories told,

Access for all, both new and old.

Not replaced, but evolved and bold,

A human heart, in code untold.

My new roles, a compass and a guide,

With AI's help, walking side by side.
