National Education Policy-2020 has highlighted the 'importance of promoting innovative practices in education through motivation and incentivisation, while underpinning that teachers be given continuous opportunities for self-improvement and to learn the latest innovations and advances in their professions,' under an NCERT award scheme called "Promoting Innovative Practices and Experiments in Education for Schools and Teacher Education Institutions".
According to the NCERT, under the award scheme, 60 innovative practices and experiments (40 awards for School Education and 20 for Teacher Education Institutions) are being awarded after short listing the received entries.
The NCERT adds, "The main objectives of the scheme are to : Sensitise teachers and teacher educators about the potential of innovative practices and experiments for improvement of teaching-learning; Encourage teachers and teacher educators to try out innovative ideas and practices for improvement of different areas of school education and teacher education; Encourage teachers and teacher educators to identify problems they face in their teaching learning process and adopt a realistic approach to find their solutions; Create an environment in schools and teacher education institutions to ensure sustainability of innovation; and Provide a forum to teachers and teacher educators to share their innovative ideas with all the stakeholders," while treating innovation as 'something new and useful, for example, introducing new strategies or modified methods, techniques, practices, products and services' for inclusion and equity by accommodating children who are differently abled and are from disadvantaged groups.
Process for the selection for the award-worthy entries goes as follows: Submission of innovation-proposal in prescribed format to concern RIE latest by 31st July; evolution of proposal by the RIE to be sent to the NCERT; intimation from the NCERT to the institution to implement project and send the report by the last date; Visitation by NCERT observer(s); final evaluation for selection and intimation to institutional Project Coordinator and Head of the School/Institute to present the report in National Seminar
Kurukshetra based Som Gurukulhas decided to enter the NCERT Award Scheme with a project on on information processing by formalizing web-charting skill at middle school level
