Lab manners are matter of learning and practice to enhance hands-on learning outcomes

School labs are meant not only to perform science experiments which are procedure-bound but they are also required to teach scientific values and attitude. Both, science teachers and students must be respectful towards the laboratory apparatus, exercise intellectual honesty, maintain process-purity and totally avoid being distracting to others doing lab work. They must never indulge in loud-talking or cross-talking in the laboratory.

Science students must take necessary precautions while being in the lab and performing experiments to maintain integrity of their experiments. They must never compromise with the safety measures while working in the labs.

Teachers must teach lab manners since they are the extension of social skills to uphold the sanctity of the lab and the scientific community. It is often said that lab manners should be taught and practiced till honed. "Enter the lab quietly, be procedure bound, seek guidance and work quietly. Clean up your work area before you leave." were advised the students at the Plenum School to become good and serious science students (see inset pic).

Both science teachers and students should never eat or drink in the laboratory. They must do that in the staff room or in the canteen. Never, unnecessarily touch the things, taste and sniff them or play with things. The daily waste should be disposed off properly and the lab must look spec and clean.
