Main guidelines for portrait photography of pet dogs for a beginner


Pet dog's portrait photography can combine both fun and camera-sense. It has been found that pet dogs can be a good subject for a hobbyist for capturing their character and personality.


A strand of photography is the portrait photography which is used for depicting the personality of a living object. For portrait photography, the dogs are at times are difficult subject since they are unpredictable and portrait photography requires stillness of the subject and time for camera setting.


The inset pictures are of our pet dog 'Google' who has a docile and child-friendly personality.


Here are a few useful tips to photographing a pet dog's portrait


Workout on on proper scheduling - the time and situation which the dog is found to be in most relaxed position. Some situations in which the dog is most relaxed could be as follows


  • When the dog is feeling sleepy

  • when the dog has just woken up

  • when the dog just has had his meal

  • When the dog is alone (In that case one has hide one self to take photograph)

  • When dog is sitting quietly

Guidelines


-You must watch the behaviour of the dog and plan your shots 
-Try to chose various areas of house or exteriors to which dog goes goes to to sit, stand or lie down to relax
-Use natural light since flash can disturb the dog
-When the light is low use high ISO and faster shutter speed. 
-For reasonable pictures set camera option through manual mode. This means you’ll also need to know how to configure camera settings in manual mode.

The camera angle and position also matters depending the size of the dog, at time that requires crouching or lying down. Use of remote or blue tooth can also be tried. You can hide to zoom or frame the dog, it can give good results. If one can focus the camera on the eyes of the dog, it is much better.


For close-ups concentrate on eyes and years which express feelings of dogs.
