Make educational institution pedagogy centric for relevance and quality of learning

Ever since, pedagogy has emerged as a separate area of study and knowledge area, its application to Improve learning outcomes has come to centre-stage. In India the UGC (n, d,) has provided the guidelines to institutions for making education qualitatively better by making use the appropriate and ‘effective pedagogical approach that could touch upon the following aspects::’

  • Pedagogies are constantly evolving processes; every pedagogy is different and may be modified as per 21st Century learning.

  •  Pedagogy must fit the targeted audience and focus on helping students to develop an understanding of the knowledge delivered and relate with real life scenarios

  • To provide rich classroom experiences, various tools or methods may be integrated to enhance level of interaction and discussion within the class.

  • Different assessment tools need to be explored for higher and inclusive productivity of the learners. Integrating ICT into assessment and evaluation processes may provide self-assessment opportunity to learners.

The use of pedagogy has to be appropriated by adaptation to following the following 4 aspects

-focus on higher thinking skills such as critical thinking, reflective thinking, creative and innovative thinking, design thinking and problem solving skil in real life situation

-multimodal experiences on content presentation

-technology integration to create hybrid modal of learning

-use of criteria based formative assessment or earning of credit points with choices of disciplines both academics and vocational courses


For the shift towards pedagogy-centricity, teachers, educators and academic leaders would require intensive training to transform the curriculum delivery to make coursework relevant in the modern times
