Malayalam New Year Festival Vishu to be Celbrated on April 14

Vishu, which is the Malayalam New Year and a spring festival, will take place on Tuesday, April 14, 2026. This day marks the sun's shift into the Mesha Rashi and indicates the beginning of a new harvest season. Some of the main traditions are viewing the Vishukkani, giving Vishukaineettam or cash gifts, and enjoying the grand Vishu Sadhya feast.
The significance: of the festival is that celebrates the start of the agricultural year and is thought to bring good fortune for the upcoming year. as well as new start of the year with hope and happiness
A traditional setup of lucky items—yellow konna flowers, rice, fruits, a mirror, holy books, and coins—is viewed early in the morning. During the festivities, people wear new clothes or Vishu kodi and partake in a lavish meal known as Vishu Sadhya. On Vishu, all major temples like Sabarimala will open for darshan to mark the occasion.
Vishu kolam, which consists of colorful flower rangolis called Pookala along with rice powder designs, welcomes the Kerala New Year with themes of abundance. Important features include the bright yellow Kani Konna flowers from the Cassia fistula family used for creating geometric patterns on the floor.
