Mastering nasal aspiration is one of the important English language speaking skills which requires practice in proper linking of words ending in /d/ sound into a word beginning with an /n/ sound. Practice in mergring [d̚ n] sounds is required for fluency in speaking English.
For proper nasal aspiration the vocal organ 'velum' which is a flap in the back of the mouth. The positioning of the velum either allows air to pass through the nose or blocks it. The velum opens only for three nasal consonants, namely, the /n/, /m/, and /ŋ/ sounds. Practice in merging [d̚ n] sounds in English word pairs is a must for proper speaking of English.
Two steps in nasal aspiration are as follows
· Beginning with velum closed
· Open velum as /d/ approaches /n/ to merge
