Micro-learning cum mastery learning is viable strategy across ability spectrum, suggests research

Presenting his paper at National Conference in 2019 on “Education of Persons with Disabilities: Reality, Reflection and Reforms”, Dr. Lalit Kishore of Disha Foundation in Jaipur said that a needs-assessed micro-learning curriculum with freedom of style and pace of learning emphasis on mastery learning; and coupled with Diagnostic-Prognostic Approach (DPA) can be viable cutting across the ability spectrum. Dr kishore has written profusely on micro-learning as indicated by internet posts,

The abstract of his paper goes as follows.

"Across the world, Individualized Education Plans (IEP) are being advocated and practiced in some special education institutions working for Children with Special Needs (CWSN). However, the IEP practice cannot be transplanted and it has to evolve at special schools in their context and needs; and more so at an institution dealing with the education of children with multiple disabilities like Disha in Jaipur. Keeping this view, a focus group (N=3; pedagogy advisor, management functionary, researcher) was held for 2 hours at Disha in March 2019 to work out some strategic points. The mini focus group deliberations resulted in one page document for evolving and stabilizing an approach which focus group named as ‘Diagnostic-Prognostic Approach’ (DPA).

Meant to be trialled in clinical setting with mild and moderate disability children, the beginning for micro-learning task as a free play activity to identify strength(s) of the child and his or her progress being is reviewed weekly for prognostic inputs. Initial trials were discussed and model of micro-learning based instruction has been finalized and depicted in graphic mode for intrinsic validity of the intervention."
