Multigrade pedagogy requires robust teacher training and follow-up system for its success


“In India and many other countries, multigrade small schools situation abounds in remote small habitations, hilly tribal villages and among minority groups, which requires to be made robust through training and its follw-up,” said the multi-grade pedagogy expert Dr Lalit Kishore who has done a research study for UNESCO [1] on the subject which has been also listed on Google Scholar. [2] and has also been quotes in the studies on multigrade teaching at the University of Suxess.




According to a post “Development of training module for master trainers of multigrade teaching”on slideshare [3], in Jaipur, training of master trainers required developing of module so as transfer the field-teacher training and back-up support to teachers.

A one day discussion and workshop was organized at CULP-Jaipur (N=4; February 6, 2016) to finalise the training six-day training module for use Rajasthan Government’s multi-grade schools for tribal children called Maa-Bari Kendras.


The module making had two parts in which first three days consisted of sessions with demonstrations and experiential sessions to give a feel for multigrade teaching with learning episodes from the textbooks of the state governments.


The next three days of training were the in workshop mode and practical sessions.

In the last three days master trainers were required to create their own training sessions so as to impart training to teachers in twelve day split over four phases of three days each.
