Need for reporting on education stressed on World Press Freedom Day

On 3rd May, World Press Freedom Day was observed as a virtual events 'as a reminder to governments of the need to respect their commitment to press freedom and is also a day of reflection among media professionals about issues of press freedom and professional ethics.' holds UNESCO

According to UNESCO, the observance is meant to support media which are targets for the restraint, or abolition, of press freedom as well as the day of remembrance for those journalists who lost their lives in the pursuit of a story.

Audrey Azoulay, Director-General of UNESCO, in her message on the occasion of World Press Freedom Day 2021 stated, "The theme of this year’s World Press Freedom Day, 'Information as a Public Good', underlines the indisputable importance of verified and reliable information. It calls attention to the essential role of free and professional journalists in producing and disseminating this information, by tackling misinformation and other harmful content."

"There is lack of education reporters in India who investigate success stories of teachers, attend conferences on education, cover events related to education and latest research taking place in education and learning," stated Dr Kishore of Jaipur who does occasional reporting on education.
