Teachers must improve quality of education: Pranab Mukherjee

Honouring teachers with National Awards on the occasion of Teachers' Day at Vigyan Bhawan in Delhi on Sep 5, President Pranab Mukherjee called upon teachers to improve the quality of education by making it rich in values and modern in content.
IN INDIA, the birthday of eminent, philosopher, teacher and former President Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan is celebrated as Teachers Day on September 5 each year. On this occasion, meritorious teachers from different parts of the country are honoured with national awards.
At the function organised at Vigyan Bhawan, 310 teachers from State elementary, middle, senior secondary schools; Kendriya Vidyalayas; Navodaya Vidyalayas; CBSE-affiliated schools, Sainik schools; special education schools and Atomic Energy Education Society Schools received the awards.
The President while wishing success to the awardees, extended his warm greetings to the entire teaching community in the country on Teachers' Day. Mukherjee said he subscribed to the views of Swami Vivekananada who described education as 'a process by which character is formed, strength of mind is increased and intellect is sharpened.’
"To build the India of our dreams, the first and foremost task before us is to improve the quality of education," said Mukherjee, reported The Times of India.
"In a nation whose demography is young - both in age and spirit - teachers have the responsibility of providing education which is rich in values and modern in content," Mukherjee added.
The union minister for Human Resource Development, Kapil Sibal and Ministers of State for Human Resource Development, E. Ahamed and D. Purandeswari were also present at the function.
