A mini focus group for one hour was organized in which Dr Lalit Kishore (Researcher-Educator with Disha Foundation) and Ram Krishana Sharma (Government Senior Hindi Teacher, Rajasthan Education Department) participated.
The issue of language teaching in inclusive situation was discussed to work out the framework for school entrants so as to make language learning contextual, relevant, pedagogically sound and inclusive.
Since language is the basic tool for communication, thinking and learning other subjects, it is essential that beginning of language learning should contextual, culturally linked and multi-sensory to make a shift towards equity and inclusion.
References were made to the ERIC study of the NCERT on transition from home language in rural Jaipur and UNESCO sponsored study on multi-grade teaching in India. Also, it was brought to focus the importance of micro-learning and deep-learning for mastery on the language right from grade one.
It was decided that to start with eight four-line adapted poems from local language be collected to be used with padded strategy for creating sight vocabulary of 10-20 words for discussion during next weekly meeting.
The following framework emerged from the focus group deliberations.
