The festival
The Neo-Buddhist Deep Dan festival is celebrated on the same day as Hindu Diwali that involves lighting lamps and offering them to monks along with grain with recitation of spiritual verses. The celebration marks the completion of 84,000 Shanti Stupas built by Emperor Ashoka.
Couplets
A gentle spark, a mindful gleam,
To chase away ignorance, a waking dream.
Reflect within, in quiet space,
Find wisdom's calm, embrace its grace.
The Middle Path, a steady hand,
"Be your own light," across the land.
A lamp we light, for hearts to mend,
Good deeds, thoughts grow, without end.
Extend compassion's gentle, warm hand
Spread equanimity, across the land
And when we learn to loosen, let things be,
The lamp then glows, for all the world to see,
So let go now, and watch the darkness flee,
Your inner lamp, a vibrant, hopeful tree.
