Online education: Demand and distress

With long-period school closures due to the COVID-19 pandemic, slowly and steadily, urban schools are switching over to live lessons or recorded lessons which are limited to children with middle and upper classes. However, it has been found stressful and unsatisfactory since the presentations were long and non-interactive.

Poor quality of on-line education and longer screen times have resulted mental health, social skill and emotional heath losses of children receiving on-line education currently.

Moreover, even in a city like Jaipur, only 25 per cent of families have digital devices and internet connections. This has resulted in unprecedented drop out of children from poor families, slum children, government school students and girls from the school education due to economic stress of the families.

Schools have to change infra-structure, equip themselves with tools and techniques to manage on-line education system well. Moreover, teachers are required to be given extensive training to professionalize themselves for transacting virtual lessons effectively.
