Open-book and open-web learning skills and tests: Know ABCs of futuristic education at senior school level

The CBSE is going to experiment with open book examination system from the academic session 2025-26 in a few select schools. This would require teacher preparation in information retrieval skills, problem-solving skills and creating test items valid for the new way of learning


Here is the ABCs of the open-book and open-web teaching-learning-evaluation continuum


A: Approach to education must promote problem-solving skills and researching skills by accessing authentic and relevant information information from print and web resources

B: Background material for the topics highlighted with interpretations, varied perspectives and insights by the teacher

C: Communication skills in professional-technical language writing required to for anwering questions of open-book and open-web tests

D: Development of information retrieval skills, notes making and self-study skills, preparing glossary documents is a must

E: Exam taking proficiency through test-format familiarisation and formative mock tests for higher order thinking skills to be held to enhance competence in information retrieving and problem solving skills
