The Persian New Year or Nowruz (21 March) - also known as Nauryz, Navruz, Nawrouz, Nevruz, Nooruz, Novruz or Nowrouz - is the celebration of the vernal equinox in the Northern Hemisphere as the first day of spring or Farvardin month as per the Solar Hijri calendar when night and day are of equal length.
Literal meaning of Nowruz is “new day” marked by festive ceremonies, cultural events, special herbal laden meals with friends and loved ones to 'promote values of peace and solidarity between generations and within families as well as reconciliation and neighborliness.' According to UNESCO, the Nowruz festival 'contributes to cultural diversity and friendship among peoples and different communities.'
