Short note

The Gita emphasizes the importance of self-restraint as a means to achieve mental stability and overall well-being. This pursuit involves gaining control over one's desires and sensesalong with fostering a sense of tranquility. Contemporary research in neuroscience, behavioral science, and emotional intelligence supports the significance of self-restraint in today's society. In an era characterized by consumerism, sensory distractions, and technological saturation, self-control is essential for maintaining focus, enhancing mental clarity, and making ethical choices. Thus, the teachings of the Gita extend beyond the realms of philosophy and spirituality, finding relevance in psychology, cognitive sciences, and wellness practices.

Couplets

A quiet mind, a steady hand,

The Gita's wisdom, understand.

Our thoughts grow clear, our focus strong,

We know the right, where we belong.

Desires whisper, senses call,

But inner strength can conquer all.

The brain agrees, the studies show,

When we learn to let the urges go.

In real we self-control power we see,

The Gita's gift, for you and me.

A citation

Calling honed self-control as self-discipline, TOI (2026) [1} states that self-discipline ignites intelligence in a way that one sticks to the path of creativity. The mental energy is greatly enhanced: the closure of one path opens hundreds of alternative channels. And, these options may already exist, but we were not able to realise them, or, with our enhanced capacity, we may create new options. Both the individual and society can benefit from pursuit of self-discipline.
