Revisiting significant teachings of Tenth Guru of Sikhs Shri Guru Gobind Singhji Sahib


Guru Purab of Shri Guru Gobind Singhji Sahib is being observed this year on January 20 this year.


Gurudwaras across the world have been decked up for special prayers and community meals. The processions will be carried out with the symbols of Sikhism and there will be a display of martial arts also.


It is an occasion to revisit the essential teachings of Shri Guru Gobind Singhji Sahib who was the tenth and last guru of the Sikh religion. He is revered for his sacrifices along with being a warrior, poet and thinker.


Shri Guru Gobind Singhji Sahib was born in Patna in 1666 and became the tenth Guru of the Sikhs on 11 November 1675, at the young age of nine years, succeeding his father Guru Tegh Bahadur. His establishment of Khalsa is considered as an important event in Sikhism's history including his declaration that the Guru Granth Sahib as the next permanent Sikh Guru.


He believed in casteless and non-ritualistic society and stressed belief in one God who is the master and protector of all. His teachings have been simple and appealing. It is also the times to revisit the essential teachings of Shri Guru Gobind Singhji as understood by me are as follows.


· Bad thoughts, words and deeds are evils

· Egotism is the biggest evil giving rise to dualities and bad deeds

· Evil is goodness blemished

· Gossip not, slander not, and malign not anyone

· Never be arrogant and egoist

· Never deem women as property or commodity

· Never ever be jealous of anyone.

· Never have vanity of your riches, lineage or looks

· Purify your mind with devotional worship and Name chanting.

· Purify yourself of evils, then goodness will shine forth by itself
