THREE SELF GROWTH BARRIERS

In Buddhism, it is essential for seekers and followers to comprehend and recognize that there are three obstacles to personal growth. These obstacles are greed, lust, and anger, which stem from earthly desires that lead to conflict and the cycle of rebirth.

These three barriers, born from desires, obscure enlightenment. They generate distractions, delusions, laziness, and doubt, resulting in a life devoid of meaning. Therefore, it is crucial to detach from worldly desires and dedicate time to cultivating compassion and equanimity — the middle path to liberation.

POEM ON THREE BARRIERS TO AWAKENING

Three fences block the upward way,

Greed, lust, and anger hold the sway.

Greed whispers, "More, you must possess!"

It chains the heart, a happinessless mess.

Lust flares bright, a fleeting show,

Then leaves a void, where seeds of sorrow grow.

Anger bursts, a fiery tear,

Destroys the peace, plants doubt and fear.

Greed, lust and rage, they lash out,

A bitter seed, they sow with doubt.

They build ego, a hardened shell,

Where love and wisdom cannot dwell.
