Rising youth suicides are matter of grave concern during COVID crisis: Special on Mental Health Day

WHO, on World Mental Health Day, October 10, last year focused on raising awareness of the scale of suicide around the world and the role that each of us could play to help prevent it. Current COVID-19 pandemic crisis has made the situation still grave.

“Worldwide, 800,000 people die by suicide each year - one every 40 seconds - making it the second leading cause of death among young people (aged 15 to 29), the World Health Organization (WHO) said while spotlighting suicide prevention last year.

UN has stated that mental health had been neglected for too long which was needed to be addressed urgently since it concerned us all.

Last year the UN Chief had stated that there was a need for stronger investments in mental health services and not allowing stigma to push people away from the assistance needed by people whose mental health gets affected since there was no health without mental health.
