An action research was undertaken with stick figure and line-drawing based visuals as precursors to drawing diagrams on the topic of ‘Advantages of Friction’ as a part of middle school science instruction at the Plenum School in Himachal Pradesh.
The topic was presented through power point presentation for the nine advantages of friction along with imparting the experience of sound production by rubbing two sand papers. The sound of accelerating and retarding train were produced by short rubbing strokes of two sand-paper pieces which amused children.
A four-line poem was practiced and sung by two students followed by echo-singing by other students to reinforce vocabulary and cognitive gain of long-term working memory.
Also, the homework for accessing the PPT on slideshare was assigned to make the line drawings. The students of small class of five students liked the transaction of the lesson overwhelmingly presented by combining three intelligences proposed by Howard Gardner in his learning model of multiple intelligence..
