Science teacher as design thinker must give due weighting to empathy stage of design thinking process: A short note and the a sketch note

n science teaching, Design Thinking (DT) is a learner-centered design initiative that begins with empathy on the part of the teacher by observing the challaneges and struggles of the learner to uncover and identify deep and relevant specific needs which can be both overt or visible as well as latent or hidden.
Empathy is first stage of DT process which pertains to the mental identification with the feelings, challanges, situation, context, thoughts or attitudes of the learner to be involved in the instructional process.
Three main techniques to develop empathy by a design thinker are the interviewing, observation, immersion or putting one's feet in other's shoes.
The goal of the empathy stage of design thinking is to discover gaps the current reality and actions which are seen as the design opportunities by the teacher in the role of design thinker. Enough time and practice should be given the first stage of the DT process.
