Self-paced study-units based physics instruction makes learning gender equitable: Secondary analysis


A secondary analysis of the physics instruction experiment done with the Individualized Guided System of Instruction (IGSI) system at Kendriya Vidyalaya-2 (KV-2), Bathinda in the early 1990s, reveals that the the self-paced learning with monthly study units with emphasis informative evaluation based mastery leaning strategy results into into gender equitable achievement score as compared to earlier conventional teacher-paced instruction with norm-based evaluation.

The secondary analysis was done in 2020 of the write-up "Building Scientific Attitude with Rate-Centered Instruction" which describes the experiences of classroom instructor with IGSI-based classroom instruction in physics at senior secondary level at KV-2, Bathinda .


The IGSI course was developed by the NCERT in 1980s. The course was tried in few Schools of Delhi and at Motilal Nehru School of Sports, Rai, Haryana in 1982 as lesson studies by this investigator.
