Seven short vowel sounds: Phonics methods demands their mastery by age of six years

There are 7 short vowel sounds in the IPA. Their example are often cited as the sounds in certain words such as: /æ/-pat, /e/-pet, /ɪ/-pit, /ɒ/-dog, /ʌ/-cut, /ʊ/-put, /ə/-about. Often these sounds are required to be mastered up to an age of six years
