The UN proclaimed World Development Information Day (WDID), is observed annually on October 24 since 1972 with an aim to encourage global cooperation and collaboration in development as one humanity with exchange and sharing of information and expertise. The observance is meant 'to show how better dissemination of information and mobilization of public opinion could raise greater awareness of development challenges.'
"In the digital era, the focus of World Development Information Day has evolved to include the role of technology. It highlights how information and communication technologies (ICTs), such as the internet and mobile phones, can help bridge the digital divide. The day also underscores how technology can offer new solutions for sustainable development, global competitiveness, and social inclusion. The overall goal is to advance the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for a more equitable and sustainable future," informs an AI search.
According to the UN, "The 2030 Agenda Declaration adopted by the United Nations in September 2015 stresses the importance of quality, accessible, timely and reliable disaggregated data to measure progress and to ensure that no one is left behind."
An Ode to International Development
A helping hand to lift and guide,
Where hope is dim, and needs reside.
With roads and schools, a future bright,
For learning's spark, a guiding light.
Good health and food, a joyful sound,
On equal ground, safe and sound.
Fair trade and farms, that crops may grow,
And governments that justly flow.
Protecting rights, for all to see,
A world of chance, for you and me.
For girls and boys, an equal start,
A kinder world, within our heart.
Lets protect Earth, where future life depends,
And close the gap, where inequality offends.
