Single-spar and no-spine small kite with A-4 size construction paper

Teachers can use this activity for cultural linkage of curriculum with the kite festival such as Makar Sakranti in India,

Proceed as follows to make the simplest kite.

1. Take a construction paper of A-4 size

2. Spread paper piece down horizontally with the long side facing you

3. Fold the paper into half to get centre fold

4. Mark a point on the top edge 1/8th of size of folded paper width from the centre fold to the right.

5. Mark a point on the bottom edge at mid point or ½ way

6. Join the two points with line to get a slant line.

7. Fold the paper along the slant line to get the first fold

8. Pinch the first fold to hold it closed and fold back rest of paper-section to get the wings along the other paper section

9. You will get the basic shape of the kite. Secure it together with cello tape along the seam between the two wings and back flap.

10. Tape your spar-stick across the top of the wings along line joining two side corners.

11. Punch a hole on back flap, about one third of the length of the central line.

12. Tie your kite with thin sewing string through the hole which should and secure back portion of the hole with tape.

13. Fly your kite in breezy wind.
