SPECIAL ON WORLD PHOTOGRAPHY DAY: LEARN AND MASTER BASIC CAMERA CONTROLS TO BEGIN WITH

For quality photographs from a digital camera, one needs to understand and master what all the controls on the camera are and apply them experimentally first. With practice, one can become become reasonably apt and serious photographer even with a basic camera.

First thing is to learn the firm hold on the camera to avoid camera shake, especially, at the time of pressing the shutter button. Practice it consciously with a closed camera to get sharp images. After, getting habituated to a firm grip on the camera, a beginner must master three functions, namely, composition, zoom and point-of-view change.

Learn about the exposure override facility in the camera which allows over or or under exposure of your picture. For dark, objects and places learn to experiment by overexposing to compensate and vice versa. For learning the technique take a few test pictures by adjusting exposure compensation. Do not hesitate, you can always delete bad pictures in a digital camera.

Practice the rule of thirds on the screen grid. The subject should be center-positioned at one of the four intersecting points for aesthetics. If you could include some thing in the fore-ground and background, it will provide a good scene setting.

Discovering the ability to zoom in on your subject by filling the frame from a distance, is another tip one must practice. Boldness and and practice are the keys to master this technique.

Many ordinary subjects become more interesting when pictures are taken from unusual angles. At time, you should bend down, lie down, climb high or tilt camera to look at the subject. This is a dynamic approach to try everything possible and then delete pictures which are not good.

After mastery over camera handling, one by one practice about hindered odd types of photography - a list of 60 is given in the inset picture. Gradually you will take the craft and art of photography to new levels.
