It has been found that for children with special needs (CWSN), a mirror can be used to enhance self-awareness, self-compassion, emotional resilience, speech correction, attentiveness, ability of recognizing body parts with the teacher carrying out assistive and guided learning with interventionist approach.
However, the designed intervention is to be used with a protocol as individualized learning. Even, normal people like to see their face in the mirror as their individualized and private self-awareness.
Here, a child with 'learning disability' was taught the recognition of 'parts of the face' (eye, nose, ear, lip, forehead, cheeks) through the following steps
-Demonstration
-Assisted learning
-Guided learning with remediation
-Correct practice for deep learning
-Revision with flash cards and demonstration by the child
After, five-hour intervention, the child was able to recognize six parts of the face and tell their names.
The coordination activities for listening and eye movement should be taken to improve listening, pre-speech and pre-reading skills.
