President Ram Nath Kovind virtually conferred National Sports and Adventure Awards 2020 on August 29. It was first virtual ceremony for presenting National Sports Awards due to COVID-19 pandemic. In all, 74 sporting heroes were honoured this time.
National Sports Day is held on the birth anniversary of hockey wizard and legend Major Dhyan Chand who received three times the Olympic gold medals in hockey
This time, 60 out of the 74 award recipients attended the virtual ceremony conducted across 11 Sports Authority of India (SAI) centres in various cities.
Rashtriya Khel Protsahan Puruskar was given for identification and nurturing of budding and young talent to Lakshya Institute, Army Sports Institute; and for employment of sports persons and sports welfare measures to Air Force Sports Control Board.
Two of the Ex-Raists, Col Rakesh (Army sports Institute, Pune) and Yashvant Panghal (Secy, Air Force Control Board) received Rastriya Khel Protsahan Awards, reported Ex-Raist Travoltaa Mor.
