Suicides by students may be caused by the institution: A short note & video statement

According to a UN reported rough estimate, worldwide, 1-2 million people commit suicide every year. The suicide rate touches the upper limit during the crisis periods or testing times like pandemics, wars, disasters, economic down-turns besides the personal losses and unrealistic expectations causing psychological challenges and loss of mental and spiritual health.

For many teen-age children, even schools become the cause of suicide, when their self-esteem gets badly hurt due to punishment, or unfairness, neglect, sexual abuse, rebuke, bullying and child rights violation.

Schools need to become happy places of learning rather than being driven by rewards and punishment. For children, schools need become a web of relationships (social pedagogy) and place of imparting joy of learning (instructional pedagogy) rather than the two extreme ends of rote learning or edutainment through so called 'joyful activities'.

Here is a video statement by Dr Lalit Kishore, an Indian educator, that incorporates a six-word nano- poem as follows.

NON-POEM

Make

Not learning

Harder than death
