Switch off non-essential lights for one-hour and meditate: WWF on Earth Hour

The World Wildlife Fund (WWF), the organizers of the Earth Hour have urged people across the globe to switch off lights in support of nature and our planet today ( 27 March, 2021) at 8:30 pm for one hour. The first observance was held in Sydney, Australia in 2007.

In the pre-COVID times the event had become the 'global grassroots movement uniting people to take action on environmental issues and protect the planet.

It has been said that owing to COVID-19 pandemic, the organizers have recommended to take part online / digitally, and if otherwise it should be done by following local guidelines such as wearing a mask and maintain social distancing.

"Traditionally, global skylines have gone dark and millions of individuals have turned off their lights for Earth Hour as a symbolic gesture to their commitment to preserving our planet. WWF is taking a different approach this year. We are living in unprecedented times and now more than ever we need to take care of ourselves and one another, while also looking internally to see how we can contribute to reversing nature loss and protecting our planet," urged the WWF to switch lights for one hour and meditate.
