Syllabus reduction by 30% is one-time measure: CBSE

The MHRD has directed the examination board and education department to drop the

chapters of secondary and senior secondary classes related to following topics.

  • Constitutional Rights

  • Democratic Rights

  • Federalism

  • Citizenship

  • Secularism

  • Partition

  • Neighbouring countries

The CBSE has clarified that no question shall be asked from the syllabus reduced by 30% in the Board Exams for 2020-2021.

The logic put forth is somewhat focuses on the following points.

· It is one time measure only to make for loss of studies owning to lockdown

· It is meant to reduce the examination stress of the students due to the current situation of COVID-19 pandemic

· Social distancing and safety norms caused health emergency require more time for enforcing them

· Teaching based on Alternative Academic Calendar prepared by NCERT requires trimming of syllabus by keeping core content intact.

Many well meaning educators are doubting the motives behind the topics identified for expulsion from the syllabus beamed at responsible and responsive citizenship development in formative years of learners.
